Senior officials from IOC, EOC, UEFA, European Parliament, European Commission, Council of EU and EU member states, sport industry and athletes and sport events’ organisers shared their views and discuss on the impact of the COVID-19 to sport.

The role of EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel 

The conference started with opening words by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, in charge of Sport. Afterwards, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach delivered the keynote speech. The conference continued with two video testimonials and two high-level panel discussions focused on grassroots sport and competitive sport, and the sport sector more broadly:

1. ‘Key challenges and lessons learnt from the crisis for grassroots sport organisations‘;

2. ‘The impact of the crisis on growth and jobs in the sport sector and possible ways to recover’.

The event represented an important opportunity to talk and discuss about future and the next developments of the EMCA network, analysing different strategic topics, like potential EMCA enlargement and the recent Erasmus+ Sport Call regarding present and future projects.

Moreover, the election of the EMCA bodies took place, with important announcements in terms of responsibilities and tasks. The engagement and the enthusiasm shown by participants can certainly bode well for the future, with new challenges and opportunities in the name of “Multisport for All”.

The evening was the time of the official opening and the occasional ceremony. Mrs Mariya GABRIEL opened the official EWoS and Mr Janez JANŠA (Prime Minister of Slovenia) the Slovenian holiday. The dinner that followed was a moment for pleasant conversations and exchange of reflections and impressions from the central day of European sports

Data Vaults is a two-year project, coordinated by Fraunhofer, that will start in January 2020. The goal of the project is to develop a secure platform that can handle personal data coming from different sources such as smart mobile devices, wearables, sensors, medical records, ergonomic tests etc. Each member of the platform will be able to authorize collecting data about him / her and through this, will gain complete control while allowing him / her to safely share his / her selected data with third parties.

With the SWinG Mentors Orienteering Session that took place in Paris, on October 4, partners are starting the pilot testing of our concept idea.

Partners gathered 17 -out of the 20- selected mentors at the MEDEF headquarters in Paris. This had been a first step towards the successful implementation of the SWinG mentoring scheme. The day was intentionally built to facilitate the creation of a community of SWinG mentors. It also helped to ensure a common understating of the SWinG mentoring approach and expectations. In addition it was made to learn from and capitalize on the various mentoring experience of the mentors.

Support the “Sport for All” approach, with the aim of encouraging everyone to practice physical activity and #BeActive. This is the spirit of the day promoted by Società Sportiva Lazio, in sinergy with “Ufficio per lo Sport” of the Italian Presidency of the Council, that will take place next 28th September in Rome (Villa Glori – Viale Pilsudski 25).  During the event, boys and girls from 3 to 14 years old and seniors over-50, will have the opportunity to practice different sports offered by the S.S. Lazio sections. Special activities will be realised for people with disabilities. 

These activies will be realised in the framework of the European Week of Sport, the annual event of the European Commission, that sees the presence of the European Multisport Club Association as partner. Taking place every year from 23 to 30 September, the Week allows millions of people to collaborate on building better, healthier lifestyles for citizens across the world.

In presence of Società Sportiva Lazio and the European Multisport ClubAssociation representatives, Federico Eichberg and Gabriella Bascelli, the meeting represented a good opportunity to talk about EMCA and stimulate possible future synergies in the framework of the European Union policies.

SD Crvena Zvezda delegation is now in Rome thanks to the EMCA Project Multisport Academy. The Project is co-funded by the European Union and focuses on the mobility of coaches and sport staff arond Europe, with a particular stress on the Western Balkans region.
