Celebrating the Day of Hungarian Sport with Ferencváros Torna Club

On May 6, 1875, the Hungarian Athletic Club – the country’s oldest multisport club – hosted Hungary’s very first outdoor sporting event.
Since then, this historic date has been officially recognized as The Day of Hungarian Sport, a celebration of physical activity, inclusion, and community spirit.
To honor this tradition, Ferencváros Torna Club, a proud EMCA member, joined multisport clubs across the nation in organizing grassroots sports activities at the FTC-MVM Sport Center.
Despite the midweek schedule and less-than-ideal weather, the turnout was inspiring: over 220 participants engaged in the festivities, exploring 10 different sports. A highlight of the day was an inclusive wheelchair handball match between Ferencváros’ men’s handball team and a team of athletes with disabilities – a powerful demonstration of unity and the spirit of sport.
This event not only celebrated Hungarian sporting heritage but also emphasized the values of accessibility, diversity, and active lifestyles for all.
